These are a Few of My Favorite Things

by Donya Parrish, MCUN

The Christmas station on the radio has been playing "These are a Few of My Favorite Things," a song that I always identify with the movie The Sound of Music. One of the song's best qualities is that it implies that the list of items is not conclusive and there may be many other "favorite things" that the tune is just not long enough to accommodate. The positive tone and simple reminder to be grateful for even the smallest blessings makes it a classic.

As 2016 draws to a close and I reflect on the past twelve months, there are a few blogs that make my list of favorite things. If you missed them the first time, or want to read them again in a different frame of mind, here are my picks for a few of my favorite things:

  • A simple reminder that the statement “we have always done it that way” is a barrier to growth and new ideas. (Starting Today, We Do It Different

  • We all confuse CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group at times, but they are different. This blog explains the primary services each of these valued partners provides to Montana credit unions. (A Case of Mistaken Identity)

  • Can you imagine a world without credit unions? Consumers who they have helped over the years can’t either. Cheers to the underdog! (Rooting for the Underdog)

  • What better way to celebrate than to recognize one of your own. It was a heartwarming moment when Alan Johnson was named the MCUN Volunteer of the Year in May! (2016 Volunteer of the Year)

Thank you for your commitment to the credit union movement in 2016, and for your readership of this blog. We will continue in 2017 and look forward to what the new year brings. Happy New Year!

At the bottom of this page, you'll find links to past blog posts organized (loosely) into four categories. Feel free to browse. The blogs are all fairly short and provide food for thought in the areas of directors' duties and responsibilities, advocacy, working with the CEO, and ideas for strategic planning.
